Ancient Coins: ROMAN IMPERIAL BRONZE: Marcus Aurelius, 161-180 A.D.
AE Sestertius, 25.67g. 33mm. 166 A.D. M AVREL ANOTNINVS AVG GERM. Laureate head of the emperor to right. Rev. TR POT XX IMP IIII COS III S C. Victory inscribing shield VIC PAR on palm tree. RIC 931. Lovely green patina.
The portrait very strongly resembles that of Lucius Verus, but with the legend for Aurelius. Perhaps there was a mixup at the mint with coins for both rulers being produced at this time.See more detailed image
