Lydia, Daldis, Septimius Severus, 193-211 A.D.

AE 33, 23.84g. archon Artemidoros. Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Septimius to right. Rev. Apollo seated on left playing lyre and Kybele seated on right playing tympanum. Cf. Münzen und Medaillen, Basel, Auction 41, 1970 , lot 415, otherwise probably  unpublished. Dark brown patina with some areas of light corrosion. Rare with less than 10 known examples.

The magistrate Artemidoros is probably the contemporary author known as Artemidoros of Daldis who wrote a treatise, still substantially extant, on the interpretation of dreams. He lived in Ephesus, but his mother was from Daldis.
