AE 40 Nummi, Heavy Series, 14.60g. 28mm. Rome, c.493-553 A.D. INVICTA ROMA. Helmeted and draped bust of Roma to right. Rv. Romulus and Remus suckling she-wolf; XL above; IIII and two pellets in exergue. Metlich 82a(this coin illustrated) MEC 1, 93-94. MIB I, 70. BMC, Vandals, Ostrogoths, and Lombards, p. 104,26-7. Dark brown patina. A choice example on a full flan of this normally heavily worn and crudely produced type; one of the finest known examples.
