Caria, Halikarnassos, Sept. Severus, 193-211 A.D.
 AE 30, 14.72g. archon: Stratokleos .  Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Septimius to right.  Rev.  Zeus Askraios(oak tree)  standing with a radiate head between two trees with perching birds.  BMC 88. SNG von Aulock 2534.  SNG COP 384.  a small  flan defect on the reverse beneath the bird on right.  Dark green and brown patina and rare. 
 
The reverse type is used with a few emperors of this period and most likely represented a now missing cult statue.  Cf. Leon Lacroix, Les Reproductions De Statues Sur Le Monnaies Grecques,1949,  pp. 92-3 and pl. VI,1.
