
Ancient Coins: GREEK SILVER: Sicily, Syracuse, pedigreed to 1975

AR Tetradrachm, 17.29g. 24mm. c.480-475 B.C. Charioteer driving quadriga to right; nike crowning lead horse with a wreath from above. Rev. Diademed head of Arethusa to right; four dolphins around; large die break behind head obscures one dolphin. Boehringer 266(dies). Fine old collection toning and with some interesting archaic letter forms in the ethnic inscription for Syracuse.
