Count Ivan Ivanovitch Tolstoi, 1858-1916

Count Ivan Ivanovitch Tolstoi, 1858-1916, was an attorney and well known numismatist in St. Petersburg. His most important work was Monnaies Byzantines the first part of which was published in 1911 and still considered a major reference on the series(see: Spring, p. 119.) His own exceptional collection of about 1200 Roman Republican and Imperatorial coins was sold at auction by Hess in Frankfurt in 1912.
