AV Solidus, 4.52g. 21.5mm. Trier mint, 343-344 A.D. FL IVL CONSTANS F F AVG. Laureate and rosette diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Constans to right. Rev. VICTORIA DD NN AVGG; TR in exergue. Victory standing to left holding palm and trophy. RIC VIII, 123. Depeyrot_(See 4/4 for obv. type and 4/3 for rev. type) Extremely rare; the reverse is the usual type for Constantius II, but here used for Constans and of elegant style. AE Antoninianus, 4.08g. 21mm. Rome, c.277 A.D. IMP C MAVR PROBVS AVG. Radiate and cuirassed bust of Probus to right holding spear. Rev. VIRTVS AVGVSTI; R A in exergue. Emperor standing to left holding scepter and crowing trophy; captive to left. Cf. RIC 243 but listed without spear or officina. Cf. Naumann, Auction 44, 2016, lot 1100 for same type but with different officina. Rare and with an attractive brown patina. Provenance/Pedigree: Extremely Fine $975. |
