Mettius.  Rome, January-February 44 B.C.  CAESAR [IMP].  Wreathed head of Caesar to right; lituus and cup behind.  Rev.  M METTIVS.  Venus standing to left holding Victory and scepter; she rests elbow on shield; globe below; I in field to left.  CR 480/3. Syd. 1056.  Sear, Imperator 100. Alfoldi Type III, A4/R17, unlisted die combination.  Weak strike on edge beneath bust.  Spectacular  portrait with a particularly detailed wreath; iridescent old cabinet toning.
